Becoming a processing sales manager

As you might expect, processing sales managers essentially sell services that simplify processes. Read on to find out more about the job and the skills required.

What exactly does a processing sales manager do?

They sell businesses processes that will a) save money, b) simplify or improve operations, or c) both. For example, large payment solution companies will need a processing sales manager to sell payment authorisation systems to retailers. Where the product is particularly compelling, these jobs can be rather profitable.

What are the main responsibilities of a processing sales manager?

The main responsibilities are not dissimilar from the majority of sales jobs at this level. Specifically, you’ll be required to:

  • identify, develop and secure new processing business
  • act in a consultative, proactive capacity and contribute to the identification of business growth opportunities
  • accurately forecast future sales activity.
You are likely to have a team reporting to you so you’ll need to have line management experience and all this entails, from appraising staff to motivating them and ensuring they are given realistic yet challenging targets.

What skills do I need?

You’ll need a range of skills to succeed as a processing sales manager. To secure a role this senior, you’ll generally require processing sales experience. On a more general level, you will need excellent relationship building and engagement skills and a strong commercial drive, be independent and self-motivated and have an entrepreneurial mindset.
